Opportunities to improve primary production practices in the catchment of the Great Barrier Reef

An action research project investigating opportunities to improve primary producers’ management of water quality in the catchment of the Great Barrier Reef  for the Reef Water Quality Protection Plan. The project involved visiting graziers and farmers to explore their management practices, and facilitating a workshop with them, looking particularly for practices that improve water quality, that make business sense, and have high potential for substantially wider take up.

  • We are undertaking this project jointly with Prof. Alistair Gilmour, on behalf of the Australian Research Institute in Education for Sustainability, at Macquarie University.
  • Our local partners are the Burdekin Dry Tropics NRM Board.
